The problem
A leak above a bay window soaked the ceiling. The drywall was stained and soft, the paint was peeling, and once it was opened up the damage behind it was plain to see.
How we fixed it
We cut the ceiling back to solid material, screwed in a new drywall section, taped the seams with mesh tape and mudded them, then built up several skim coats and sanded each one until the patch disappeared into the rest of the ceiling. The floors stayed covered the whole time.
